Enemies are the hostile creatures who seek to impede the protagonists in Shovel Knight.
Enemies can be broken down into four categories:
- Minor enemies are the most common enemies in Shovel Knight; most have only a few hit points
- Major enemies are more significant; often having a larger number of hit points, reduced damage from secondary weapons and vulnerable only on specific sides.
- Mini-Bosses typically have even more hit points than Major enemies and must be defeated in order to progress through a stage.
- Bosses are fought at the end of each stage or on their own as encounters. Each Boss has the full twenty hit points except for the first boss in the Plains.
