A domesticated Memmec, Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment

Memmecs are rare minor enemies appearing in Specter of Torment, King of Cards, and in the Puzzler's Pack DLC of Pocket Dungeon. They appear as fennecs with a body shaped like a treasure chest.

Story[]

In Specter of Torment, a docile Memmec can be found at the Tower of Fate hub in the library above the Magic Mirror. Specter Knight can pet it by holding [DOWN] next to it, after looking around to see if anyone notices. It will also start playing with one of the Birder eggs in the same room if Specter Knight kicks one to it, releasing treasures while doing so. Another Memmec appears in the campaign's ending scenes, sleeping next to Farrels at the Village when Specter Knight brings back Reize to the hedgehogs' family home.

Tactics and Behavior[]

Treasure Trove[]

In the wild, Memmecs mimic a treasure chest, with only their face visible. Opening the chest frees the Memmec of its frame, which then starts attacking. They have BossHPBossHP (4) health points, deal Sword 1 damage point per contact and release large sums of treasures when hit.

A faster way to defeat them is using the Dread Talon, however the total gold dropped in this way will result minor compared to the one dropped by simply hitting them. Despite their cute appearance, they will defend their treasure fiercely, dishing out two full health bubbles for each time they attack the player. Interestingly, the Memmecs are the only enemy that will continue to drop treasure after a playable character's death; however, the quantity dropped will progressively become lower and lower.

Only two wild Memmecs can be found in Specter of Torment, in off-road rooms of the Explodatorium and the Lost City. They are a little more common in King of Cards. Unlike other enemies, Memmecs do not trigger Shock Tiles.

Pocket Dungeon[]

In Pocket Dungeon, Memmecs may replace and be camouflaged as treasure chests on Legendary Paths Quandaries and with the the Memmec's Kin Cap equipped. In the King Knight's Bash Blitz Quest, Memmecs are spawned without being camouflaged, but only start moving around the board after being hit once.

A Memmec camouflaged as a treasure chest lacks a key hole and has its tail slightly visible and moving. Attacking a Memmec while it is camouflaged damages it and makes it jump away on the board. It continues to jump around every 10 turns or when it is directly attacked. Once defeated, a Memmec turns into a normal treasure chest that still requires a Key to unlock.

Joustus Card[]

One of the Joustus cards in King of Cards is a Memmec card which has 2 Double Arrows facing right and up.

Trivia[]

  • Memmecs are based off of a fennec fox. Their name is a pun on the words Mimic, a classic monster mimicking a treasure chest, and fennec.
  • Since many of Specter Knight's allies can be seen fleeing the Tower of Fate after his clash with the Enchantress, it is unknown if the Memmec next to Farrels is supposed to be the same one found in the Tower's library.
