Hoppicles are minor enemies wearing antique-looking red and yellow armor in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, brandishing a shield with a horse figure. They appear in the Lost City. Their Icy variant also appear in Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, while the standar version was reintroduced with the Paradox Pack DLC.
A shield-less variant is known as a Birder Herder, and they are closely related to the similar Whippicles.
Story[]
In Specter of Torment two Hoppicles appears as wandering NPCs in the Tower of Fate after defeating Mole Knight. Another one appears attending to Creech's juice bar.
In ''King of Cards, Hoppicles appear as wandering NPCs in the Cavern of Joustus and Tower of Joustus.
Behavior and Tactics[]
Hoppicles run back and forth while holding a shield in front of them. Their shields make them invulnerable from the front and top, but they can be killed from behind. They are also prone to falling into pits of lava, but can jump over it completely if the pit is small enough.
They posses one hit point and deal half a damage point. Upon defeat, they drop a 10 gold worth green gem and a 5 gold worth blue gem.
Variants[]
Icy Hoppicles[]
Icy Hoppicles are identical to regular Hoppicles, but use a light blue and white color palette and are exclusive to the Stranded Ship. In Treasure Trove, they never fall off platforms.
In Pocket Dungeon, Icy Hoppicles have 5 hit points and deal 1 damage point. When directly hit, they raise their shield in the direction of their attacker and start charging left or right until they reach an obstacle or the end of the board. They also continue to fall while charging each turn.
Joustus Card[]
One of the Joustus cards in King of Cards is a Hoppicles card which can push other cards to the left and right using Double Arrows.

Trivia[]
- Hoppicles's sprite model is named "Horse Hopper".
- Red Hoppicles have their own animated portrait for idle and hurt state in the files of Pocket Dungeon since the game's launch, but they were never used. They however lack sprites for their model.
- In Pocket Dungeon, a red Hoppicles icon is used to represent Level 4 CPU in VS Mode.
