A vessel for storing mythical ichor.
+5 max HP until end of level.
Restores 1 HP every 5 turns until end of level.

The Troupple Chalice is a Relic in Shovel of Hope, a gear in Plague of Shadows and an item, with two different variants, in Pocket Dungeon.

Shovel of Hope[]

Usage[]

The Troupple Chalice is a mythical item used to store Ichors that are granted by either the Troupple King himself or one of the different Troupples that are found throughout the land. The Ichors that can be used to fill the chalice are:

Shovel Knight has the choice between these three different types of Ichor to store in them. As such the Troupple Chalices functions like a costless Relic.

Availability[]

The Trouple Chalice can be purchased twice from Troupple Acolyte in the Village, each for Treasures icon 1500, for a total of two chalices.

Plague of Shadows[]

Usage[]

In Plague of Shadows, the Troupple Chalice is used to meet the Troupple King when helding it aloft before him. The Troupple King will not grant a drinkable Ichor, instead he will coat Plague Knight's Cloak in Ichor in lieu of armor upgrades.

Once all 420 Cipher Coins are collected, Plague Knight can recreate through Alchemy an even more powerful type of chalice, the Pandemonium Chalice.

Availability[]

The Troupple Chalice can be bought by Plague Knight from a female Troupple Acolyte in the Armor Outpost for Treasures icon 1500.

Pocket Dungeon[]

In Pocket Dungeon, the Troupple Chalices return and they are Items. There are two chalices variants, each filled with a different type of Ichor, which are both offered by the Troupple King in random side-rooms during runs of the Pocket Dungeon. Only one can be taken at a time.

  • The red Chalice grants +5 max HP until the end of stage it was activated in.
  • The blue Chalice restores 1 HP every 5 turns, lasting until end of the level it was activated in.

Both chalices' effects last through both a stage and the boss rooms following them.

Trivia[]

  • "Ichor" originates in Greek mythology, where it is the ethereal fluid that is the Greek gods' blood, sometimes said to retain the qualities of the immortal's food and drink, ambrosia or nectar. It was considered to be golden in color, as well as lethally toxic to mortals.
    • Interestingly enough, the Ichors in this case come from the Troupple King's guts, as he spits the substance right into the chalices. It is assumed that the Troupples fished in the stages also bestow their Ichors the same way.
  • Interestingly the Ichor of Fortitude from Showdown does not use the sprites of regular Ichor, instead it uses the sprites of Plague Knight's liquid Arcana, such as the Fleet Flask or the Berserker's Brew, making it the only Ichor not stored into a Troupple Chalice.
